Men

There are more than two dozen competitions to be played for annually, including several “majors”. Among the most noteworthy are the scratch medal, a 36-hole strokeplay event, the Captain’s Prize, a knockout matchplay tournament played throughout the season culminating in a 36-hole final, and the Fullerton Cup, another 36-hole strokeplay competition held in July .

A Winter Order of Merit keeps the interest going throughout the colder months – with various weekend competitions being enjoyed.

We also compete in a league played across the county and North Nottinghamshire for mid handicappers (8-15) to allow them competition while representing the club.

Rotherham’s lower handicap players represent our scratch teams in leagues and knockout competitions run by the Sheffield Union and Yorkshire Union. The region is a hotbed for good golfers and for those who regularly shoot in the 70s, and Rotherham is no exception.

Seniors

There is plenty on offer to older golfers, with our men entering teams in the Spondon Trophy – a seven-a-side team event featuring clubs across several counties. Our senior members are to the fore in regular “fiddle” gatherings, with groups of members taking to the course on a daily basis.

Ladies

There is a full season of competition for our Ladies’ Section. In addition to their own programme of monthly medals and Stablefords and competitions, the club enters a scratch team and A and B teams in popular annual club competitions run by the Yorkshire Ladies Golf Association.

Juniors

Our Junior section continues to go from strength to strength and many of our young players practice hard to try and emulate the success of a our junior star Danny Willett who has gone on to make a name for himself in the world of professional tournament golf.

We are renowned as having one of the best junior sections in the area and we welcome juniors of all abilities. We are well placed with skilled professionals and good quality practice facilities to bring youngsters through their first steps in golf giving them a thirst that stays with them for a lifetime. The professional team takes the youngsters out to the practice ground or on to the course to play a few holes on Tuesdays, helping them build confidence in their golf game.

Improvement programmes can be created to suit the needs and aspirations of each individual and there are also beginner classes aimed at teaching children the basics to enable them to get out and enjoy the game as quickly as possible. Learning sound fundamentals at an early age means many years of frustration on the course later in life can be avoided.

The better juniors are encouraged to take part in men’s competitions and other dedicated junior events are held in the school holidays. The club also enters a team in the Sheffield Union Junior League that features matches against other local clubs throughout the season.

We have introduced a fee structure that makes it easier for juniors to progress to full membership and to encourage wider participation.

In this category juniors can use all of the practice facilities and the clubhouse at any time.

They can play on the course at certain times, but most be accompanied by and adult or an older junior. An adult who is not a member can walk with them, but must be properly attired in keeping with our dress code.
