Willett vs Walker Charity Golf Day

Rotherham Golf Club is proud to host the annual Willett vs Walker Charity Golf Day, a highlight in our calendar dedicated to raising funds for The Children’s Hospital Charity. Over the past thee years, this remarkable event has brought together golf enthusiasts and generous supporters, raising over £180,000 to date.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has participated and supported the events as every contribution helps make a significant difference in the lives of children in need. We look forward to continuing this tradition and making each year even more impactful.

2025

On Tuesday 16 September, presenter Dan Walker and Ryder Cup winner Danny Willett hosted the third annual Willett vs Walker Charity Golf Day at Rotherham Golf Club, raising an incredible £80,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity’s Bright Young Dreams campaign, which is transforming children’s mental health services.

The event brought together teams of supporters and celebrities for a day of golf, fundraising, and entertainment. Among the famous faces taking part were Harry Maguire (charity patron and Manchester United defender), Oliver Phelps (Harry Potter actor), Brian McFadden (former Westlife star), Wes Nelson (singer and reality TV personality), and Jamie Christian-Johal, better known as Giant from Gladiators.

Dan Walker said: “It was another incredible day. Thank you to everyone who came, supported, donated, played, volunteered and helped to make it so special. I’m blown away by the amount of money we have raised, and I know that is going to make a huge difference to young people through Bright Young Dreams.”

Danny Willett added: “It was a great day with friends from across the UK! We’re beyond grateful to each and every person who attended. To have raised over £80k for such an important cause is amazing.”

2024

In 2024, the second annual Willett vs Walker Charity Golf Day took place at Rotherham Golf Club, where teams of three supporters of The Children’s Hospital Charity paid to play alongside a celebrity guest, raising funds for the Charity’s patron-led mental health campaign, Bright Young Dreams.

The event featured a diverse line-up of celebrity guests including footballers David Hirst, Troy Deeney, Carl Bradshaw, Dane Whitehouse, Peter Duffield, Gareth Barry, Danny Wilson, Simon Grayson, Ryan Taylor, Gerry Taggert, John Beresford, and Lee Bullen; entertainers Brian McFadden, Keith Duffy, Pete McKee, DJ Silk, and James Bye; sports personalities Johnny Morris, Neil Wain, Simon Dyson, and Matthew Hoggard; and media figures Rick Shiels, Gethin Jones, Nadiya Bychkova, and Carl Tyler.

The day was a resounding success, raising over £70,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity.

Our second annual event was a resounding success. Dan Walker, co-host of the event, commented: “What an amazing day and an incredible amount of money. There are so many people who helped to make it special and I’m looking forward to next year’s event already.”

2023

In 2023, the Willett vs Walker Charity Golf Day brought together 26 teams, each randomly paired with a celebrity guest from a star-studded lineup that included Olympian Sam Quek, former England goalkeeper David Seaman, Westlife’s Brian McFadden, champion jockey AP McCoy, snooker legend Ken Doherty, cricketer John Morris, and former professional footballers Ian Dowie, Dane Whitehouse, John Beresford, Rob Lee, Paul Dickov, and Neil Cox.

The event raised over £50,000 in total for The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, with an impressive £30,000 generated through the auction held during the day, making it a hugely successful and memorable occasion.
