General Etiquette

Etiquette should go without saying, but we kindly ask all golfers to repair pitch marks, replace divots or use the divot boxes provided, and avoid taking trolleys or buggies inside signage, onto green surrounds, between greens and bunkers, or onto teeing areas. Above all, please treat fellow golfers with respect and kindness, and always give priority to staff working on the course.

At Rotherham we pride ourselves on our relaxed atmosphere. However, we kindly request that all visitors adhere to our club rules and observe standard golfing etiquette to ensure a seamless experience during their visit.

There’s an old saying in golf: “Your place on the course is behind the group in front, not in front of the group behind.” We understand that the pace of play can sometimes be a challenge, and we kindly ask all players to follow the general rule of keeping up with the group ahead and encourage the practice of ready golf. If your group is struggling and you begin to fall behind, please be courteous and allow the group behind to play through. This helps ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone on the course.

While handicap certificates are not obligatory, we do encourage golfers to possess the skills necessary to fully enjoy their round and to avoid disrupting other players on the course.

During your time on the course, please silence or switch off your mobile phone. However, you may use them for GPS purposes.

Dress Code

The Board of Directors wishes to inform members and visitors of the following updated Dress Code rules while at the Club.

The interpretation of ‘smart casual’ will be overseen by Directors, on-duty Staff, and the Club’s Professional Team. Members and visitors are kindly asked to respect their judgement if approached.

Members are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring their guests are fully aware of the Dress Code and that it is adhered to throughout their visit to the Club.

On the Course, Practice, Putting, and Chipping Areas

• Shirts: Recognised golf shirts, with collar or mock-collar, to be worn and tucked into trousers/shorts at all times whilst on the Ladies’ shirts may be worn as designed.
• Trousers: Must be tailored or plus 2’s or plus 4’s. No denim, drawstring waistband, or external “cargo type” pockets. Trousers should not be tucked into socks. Ladies golfing leggings/jeggings are permitted.
• Shorts: Men’s shorts to be tailored with no denim, drawstring waist or “cargo type with external pockets.It is preferred that short socks should be predominantly white.Ladies’ shorts/Capri trousers to be tailored and worn with socks.

• Hoodies: Recognised golfing apparel hooded jumpers are allowed on the Course and in the clubhouse. They are not to display large logos/numbers.
• Headgear: To be worn correctly, e. with peak facing forward.
• Shoes: Recognised Golf shoes, made and designed for the purpose, are to be worn on the

All of the above apply when using the Course,practice areas and the putting/chipping greens. 

Clubhouse, lounges, and dining rooms.

• Smart casual attire can be worn at all times, including shorts, smart unripped jeans, and smart training shoes.
• All headgear is not to be worn in the clubhouse unless for cultural or religious reasons or, of course, weddings.
• Shirts can be untucked from trousers/shorts if they are so designed
• Golf clothing can be worn but must not be wet/muddy. No waterproof tops or trousers to be worn in the 19^th lounge or in the dining rooms.
• Golf shoes: Soft spiked golf shoes (not cleats) may be worn in the clubhouse from April to October, provided that they are clean, dry, and free from grass cuttings, etc. If that is not possible, then you must change your shoes. Stockinged feet are not permitted.
• Open-toed footwear are permitted
• Enclosed footwear may be worn without
